We just passed one month of living in Ecuador. The transition has been relatively easy in all aspects except the language. We can communicate and understand most things but the local accent has made understanding a bit more difficult than expected. The masks required during the pandemic are a second hindrance. We are looking forward to starting further language training in the coming month.
We met a young man, Yordan, during our survey trip in January of this year at a local pharmacy. Last week, we stopped in to purchase a small item and he remembered us from 9 months ago. We had a great conversation with him and invited him to church. He lives a few blocks from the church and attended this past Sunday with his son, Fernando. We brought them both over to our apartment for lunch after the service. Yordan is searching and there is an open door to begin a Bible study with him and his family.
We purchased a vehicle and are thankful for the Lord’s protection as we learn the driving patterns in Manta and this aspect of Ecuadorian culture. The previous owner of the vehicle, Andres, has invited us to his house for dinner with his family. He is well-connected within the city of Manta and has invited us to play soccer with his friends. We have already had several good spiritual conversations with Him. Please pray that God would continue opening Andres’s heart to the Gospel.
Our container passed inspection on Monday, October 28 with zero issues. We are waiting for customs to perform the final steps and release it to our shipping company for final delivery. Pray that this takes place in a timely manner and without any hindrances.
Prayer requests:
Andres and Yordan (salvation)
Continued grace and strength as we transition and learn the language and culture
Container would be released and delivered quickly
Glad you guys are getting adjusted! I'm sure mask wearing makes hearing the language that much harder. Praying for your container to make it fully to you.
